SCARPnotes for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is on the web! The "Ultimate Harry Potter Literary Site" contains extensive chapter summaries, character analysis, quotations and key book facts. But, in addition, there is analysis of themes, motif's, symbolism and literary devices along review questions and a practice quiz. Everything a student, or parent, needs in order to understand the Harry Potter books and complete book reports, themes, essay's or book club reading assignments.

A new feature has been added, beginning with Deathly Hallow's: "Specialis Revelio" annotations for each chapter. They are of three types: Literary, Parent's Guide, and correlations with Joseph Campbell's "Hero With a Thousand Faces." [Muggle's use Javascript 'revelio' buttons]

The "Deathly Hallows" isn't the same type of book that "Philosopher's Stone" was. Dealing with more "adult" oriented themes, it provides a wonderful culmination to Harry's journey for the thirty-seven year old's who met the boy when they were ten.

Literary Annotations

Most readers of the Harry Potter series of novels by J. K. Rowling have "ah ha" moments where they find something meaningful to their lives. This area is for posting such thoughts when they relate to a book as literature.

For example: background on a particular word or concept; correlation with other novels; ideas about themes or motif's; clarification of plot points, or inter-relation with other parts of the plot; etc.

Parents Guide Annotations

Some parents have been concerned about letting their children read the Harry Potter series of books for a variety of reasons. Many parents have gotten around their concerns by reading the books with their children - together.

Other parents, especially of older children, let them read the book but spend time discussing it with them. There are some fairly violent and "dark" parts, especially in the later books; but, there are some wonderful moral and life "lessons" as well - if only they can be talked about.

Heros Journey Annotations

Several years ago the american literary scholar, Joseph Campbell, wrote a book entitled: "The Hero With A Thousand Faces," outlining the main plot characteristics of the worlds myths, legends and tales. A disney executive wrote an internal memo outlining the work, and the Lion King (as well as others) was born.

George Lucas used the work for Star Wars, and there are many others as well - including J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. The plot and character points made by Campbell have accurately predicted the Potter books as they have been released, including Deathly Hallows.
